Single-Trip Travel Insurance in Spain

Generali Viajero cover for one journey from Spain — medical, repatriation, baggage and the only Generali travel option that can cover a pre-existing condition.

Single-trip travel insurance — Generali's Viajero product — covers one temporary journey from your home in Spain, from departure to return. It is the simplest way to protect a one-off trip, and the only Generali travel policy with an optional pre-existing-conditions module, so it is the right choice if you have a stable, controlled medical condition. We arrange it in English as your authorised exclusive Generali agent.

What single-trip travel insurance covers

Viajero is sold in three levels — Viajero, Viajero Plus and Viajero Premium — with increasing sums insured. The cover areas are the same; the limits rise as you move up the levels. The exact sums for each guarantee are confirmed in your Particular Conditions and on your quote.

Cover areaWhat it includes
Medical & repatriation assistanceMedical, surgical, hospital and pharmacy costs abroad (and at lower limits at home), emergency dental, medical transport and repatriation, and repatriation of mortal remains — up to the limit for your level. A daily hospitalisation cash benefit applies from the 11th day away from your home province.
Travel incidents & disruptionTravel delay (typically over 6 hours), missed connections and departures, strike cancellation, early return for a family emergency, and a hotel-stay extension on medical advice (up to 14 days).
Baggage & documentsLoss, damage or theft of checked and unchecked baggage, theft of valuables within a sub-limit, baggage-delay essentials, and help replacing lost travel documents.
Civil liabilityCompensation, legal costs and bonds if you involuntarily cause injury or damage to a third party on the trip, up to your level's limit.
Personal accidentA lump sum on accidental death or permanent disability during the trip. For under-14s, death cover is limited to proven funeral costs (maximum €3,000).
Services abroadInformation, advance of hospital costs, legal assistance abroad and an advance of a criminal bail bond, up to the policy limits.

For full guarantee wording and exclusions, see the Viajero policy conditions in English. A few standard limits to note: glasses, lenses and prostheses are covered only up to €100, and medical or pharmacy costs under €50 are not reimbursed.

Who single-trip cover is for

If you travel three or more times a year, an annual multi-trip policy is likely to be better value. We will compare both for you.

Pre-existing conditions and optional extras

The base Viajero policy treats pre-existing and chronic conditions as excluded, beyond assistance for a genuine vital emergency. The optional Pre-existing conditions module — available only alongside the Viajero, Viajero Plus or Viajero Premium assistance cover — extends cover to a stable, controlled condition, within the module's terms and your Particular Conditions. Always declare any condition so we can confirm what is covered.

A second optional module covers trip cancellation: the cost of a trip you cannot avoid cancelling for a covered reason — serious illness or bereavement, non-disciplinary dismissal, home damage, and a long list of others. The cause must generally arise more than 72 hours after you take out the insurance, unless it is bought at the same time as the trip.

Pre-existing conditions are the key differentiator. Of all the Generali travel products, single-trip Viajero is the only one that can add cover for a pre-existing medical condition. If that matters to you, this is the policy to choose — and you must declare the condition for the cover to be valid.

Cost and how to get a quote

Single-trip Europe cover starts from around €12 per trip; the premium depends on your destination, the length of the trip, the cover level and any optional modules. For travel to the United States, Canada or the Caribbean, make sure your medical limit is at least €1,000,000, as treatment costs there are far higher than in Europe.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are the three levels of Generali's single-trip travel insurance. All three cover the same areas — medical and repatriation, travel disruption, baggage, civil liability and personal accident — but the sums insured increase as you move from Viajero to Viajero Plus to Viajero Premium. The exact limits for your level are confirmed in your Particular Conditions and on your quote.
Yes. Single-trip Viajero is the only Generali travel product with an optional Pre-existing conditions module, which extends cover to a stable, controlled pre-existing condition. It is available only alongside the Viajero, Viajero Plus or Viajero Premium assistance cover. You must declare the condition so we can confirm what is covered. See the pre-existing conditions section of the policy conditions.
If you travel only once or twice a year, a single-trip policy is usually the cheaper option. If you travel three or more times a year, an annual multi-trip policy is normally better value. We will compare both for your situation and budget.
Yes. For the United States, Canada or the Caribbean, where medical costs are far higher than in Europe, you should make sure your medical limit is at least €1,000,000. A single overnight stay in a US hospital can exceed €15,000 and an air ambulance back to Europe can cost €100,000 or more.
Cancellation is an optional module on the Viajero policy. Where added, it reimburses the unavoidable cost of cancelling a trip not yet started for a covered reason, such as serious illness, bereavement, non-disciplinary dismissal or home damage. The cause must generally arise more than 72 hours after you take out the insurance, unless the cover is bought at the same time as the trip.
Single-trip policies are non-refundable once travel has begun. A limited withdrawal right can apply before the trip starts and, for policies lasting more than 30 days, within the first 14 days. For the precise terms, see the policy conditions or ask our team.
