What is ship repairers' insurance?

Ship repairers' insurance (Generali RC Reparadores de Buques) is a commercial civil-liability policy for businesses that repair ships and boats — boatyards, shipyards, marinas with a repair operation and marine engineering firms. It does not insure your premises or stock; it covers the legal liability you incur for the damage and loss your repair business can cause — above all to the vessels placed in your care. (The vessels themselves carry their owners’ cover — see marine hull insurance in Spain.)

What it covers

The policy is modular; you choose from five covers:

If any of these covers is ever triggered, our marine insurance claim guide shows how the process runs in Spain.

Who needs it

If you take vessels into your care to work on them, a single accident — a dropped engine, a fire, damage on a sea trial — can become a six-figure claim against your business. Ship repairers' liability is the cover that responds. It sits naturally alongside general business insurance and, for the vessels themselves, marine insurance.

Ship Repairers' Insurance Spain — FAQs

No. Marine insurance covers a boat for its owner; ship repairers' insurance covers a business's legal liability for the boats and property in its care while being repaired. A boatyard typically needs the repairers' liability cover, not an owner's boat policy.
Yes — loss or damage to a vessel in your care is covered during sea trials of the repairs, up to 100 miles from the port where the work is carried out.
It is a minimum and deposit premium, adjusted against your gross turnover as a ship repairer for the period. We will explain the rate and the covers that suit your yard.
