Motorbike Insurance in Jávea — Generali Cover
The Costa Blanca is one of Spain's most popular motorcycling regions — year-round riding weather, stunning mountain roads through the Jalon Valley and Montgó, and coastal routes that attract riders from across Europe. Every motorcycle, scooter and moped registered in Spain requires a minimum of terceros (third-party liability) insurance. For expats in Jávea who ride regularly, most opt for at least terceros ampliado (adding theft, fire, glass and breakdown) or full todo riesgo.
As authorised Generali agents in Jávea, we arrange motorbike insurance for expats across Jávea and the Marina Alta, Alicante. Your UK or Dutch no-claims history on motorcycles is accepted — we match your existing bonus level on the Spanish policy.
We cover all types of expats in Jávea — retired residents, non-lucrative visa holders, digital nomads, self-employed autónomos and new arrivals still navigating the Spanish system. All advice is in English, all documents are available in English, and our office in Jávea is 0 minutes (our office is here) from Jávea.
Motorbike Insurance Jávea — Local Riding Conditions
Riding around Jávea and the Costa Blanca offers some of Spain's best motorcycle roads — but also some specific risks. The mountain roads through the Sierra de Montgó and the inland cols attract fast riding but also gravel, loose surfaces and sudden tight bends. Wildlife crossing (wild boar, deer) is a genuine risk on rural roads after dark. In summer, the volume of hire car traffic from tourists unfamiliar with local roads increases the risk of urban incidents.
For ITV (roadworthiness inspection for motorcycles over 3 years old), the nearest inspection centres are in Dénia and Calpe. Motorbikes require ITV every 2 years after the first inspection. An expired ITV does not technically invalidate your insurance, but it is an administrative infraction and complicates accident claims.

Frequently Asked Questions — Motorbike Insurance in Jávea
For riding in Jávea and the surrounding mountain and coastal roads, we recommend at minimum terceros ampliado — adding theft (the main risk in tourist areas), fire, glass and European breakdown to the mandatory liability cover. For newer or higher-value bikes, todo riesgo with an agreed excess gives the most comprehensive protection. Rider equipment cover (helmet, leathers, gloves) is worth adding for regular riders — good kit is expensive and not covered under home insurance. Most of our Jávea motorbike clients also include European cover for trips through Spain and to France and beyond.
Yes — UK Category A licences are valid for riding in Spain on a temporary basis. If you become a Spanish resident, you must exchange your licence within 6 months. Netherlands and Belgian motorcycle licences are similarly recognised and exchangeable. Note that Spain's graduated licence system (A1, A2, A) means the class of bike you can ride depends on your licence category. If you are on an A2 licence (restricted to 35kW), riding a more powerful bike in Spain is illegal and would invalidate your insurance — always check your category covers the bike you are riding.
Yes — all mopeds (50cc and above) require their own separate insurance policy in Spain. A moped is not covered by a car insurance policy or a motorcycle policy unless specifically added. The cost is low — terceros for a 50cc moped in the Marina Alta, Alicante area typically costs €120–€180/year. If you ride a moped regularly in Jávea for shopping, beach trips or short commutes, it is worth getting the right cover rather than riding uninsured and risking a fine, seizure and complications if involved in an accident.
