In Altea the scooter is a practical choice as much as a leisure one. The whitewashed casco antiguo climbs the hill on steep, narrow stepped lanes where parking a car is near-impossible, so many residents get up to the old town and down to the seafront promenade on a 50cc or 125cc scooter. That kind of low-speed town riding — tight turns, polished cobbles, the occasional pedestrian — is exactly where theft, knocks and glass claims happen, which is why we usually recommend at least terceros ampliado rather than bare third-party for a town scooter.
