Valencia is Spain's third city, home to around 826,000 people, roughly 18.5% of them foreign nationals, and one of the fastest-growing destinations in Europe for remote workers and relocating families. It is also a city built around water: the Jardí del Túria, the long green park that curves through the centre, is the old riverbed, left behind when the Plan Sur diverted the Turia south of the city after the catastrophic flood of 14 October 1957. That history is not decoration — it is the reason the city centre itself came through 2024 far better than the towns to its south.
Turner Insurance is an authorised exclusive Generali agent with over 25 years of insurance experience, arranging cover for expats across the whole of Spain — mostly by phone, email and WhatsApp, entirely in English. Our office is in Javea, in Alicante province, but Valencia clients almost never need to visit one: quotes, documents, renewals and claims are all handled remotely. If you would rather read this in Dutch, we also have a Nederlandstalige pagina over verzekeringen in Valencia.

Local Insurance Considerations in Valencia
No Spanish province has had a harder lesson in what insurance does and does not do than Valencia. These are the points that matter here:
- The DANA of 29 October 2024: the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros had registered 233,469 claims by 31 December 2024, 95.5% of them in Valencia province, and by late 2025 had paid over €4 billion across 210,106 indemnities. The breakdown tells you where the damage landed: 137,325 vehicle claims, 76,143 homes and communities, 14,241 businesses and warehouses, 1,002 offices.
- What the Consorcio does and does not do: it pays flood, storm above the legal wind threshold and earthquake — but only where a valid ordinary policy was in force at the moment of the event, because the Consorcio surcharge is collected through that policy. It then settles on the sums insured declared in it. A lapsed policy pays nothing; an underinsured one pays proportionally less under the regla proporcional. That is the whole lesson of 2024 in two sentences.
- Vehicles and garages: cars were the largest single claim category, and underground community garages flooded first. Motor cover for extraordinary risks attaches to a valid Spanish motor policy, which is the clearest possible argument against letting a second car's insurance lapse over the winter.
- Communities of owners: in a city of apartment blocks the comunidad de propietarios policy covers shared structure, common areas, lifts and garages — not the inside of your flat, your contents or your liability. Both policies need to be right, and the sums insured on the community policy are a matter for the junta, not for you alone.
- Health network: Valencia has four public reference hospitals — La Fe, the Clínico Universitario, the General Universitario and Doctor Peset — plus one of the deepest private networks in Spain. A Generali cuadro médico plan therefore goes a long way here, and English-speaking specialists are readily available.
- Inheritance tax: the Comunidad Valenciana gives Group I and II heirs a €100,000 personal reduction each and then a 99% bonificación on the resulting liability, taking the effective rate to roughly 1% of the state scale. See our Valencia inheritance tax guide and the per-heir calculator.
Valencia-Manises airport sits west of the city, and the Marina de València and the port lie on the seaward side — if you keep a boat there, we arrange marine cover too.
