Marbella is Spain's most prestigious coastal address — a city of around 150,000 permanent residents (rising dramatically in summer) that has attracted international wealth, celebrities and high-net-worth residents for decades. The Golden Mile between Marbella town and Puerto Banús is lined with luxury villas, five-star hotels and beach clubs; the old town (casco antiguo) offers a charming Andalusian counterpoint with whitewashed streets and orange trees. Puerto Banús itself is one of Europe's most famous superyacht marinas.
The expat community in Marbella is large, wealthy and international — British, Scandinavian, German, Dutch, Arabic, Russian and North American residents all have a significant presence. Property values are among the highest in Spain, which means getting home insurance right — particularly the rebuild value — is more financially significant here than almost anywhere else on the Peninsula.
Turner Insurance arranges all cover for Marbella residents and property owners by phone, email and WhatsApp from their Jávea office. Generali is a national insurer and the coverage and premiums are identical regardless of where you are in Spain. Many clients find that dealing with an English-speaking specialist remotely is more straightforward than trying to navigate a local office where Spanish is the working language. Andrew Turner has been an exclusive agent since 2007, DGS registry C0467B54657010. English throughout.

Marbella sits on the Costa del Sol in Málaga province, backed by the Sierra Blanca mountains and facing the Mediterranean towards North Africa and Gibraltar. The town has been a magnet for international residents and visitors since the 1950s, when the then mayor transformed it from a quiet fishing village into a cosmopolitan resort. The legacy is a layered city: an elegant casco antiguo with the Plaza de los Naranjos, the glamour of the Golden Mile, the world-famous Puerto Banús marina with its superyachts and designer boutiques, and the hillside villas of La Zagaleta, El Madroñal and the Sierra Blanca urbanisations above the N-340.
Property values in Marbella are among the highest in Spain — and in parts of the Golden Mile and Nueva Andalucía, among the highest in Europe. Málaga airport, around 55 km east, provides excellent international connections; Gibraltar is roughly 45 minutes west, making Marbella popular with Gibraltar-based workers and their families. The resident expat community is international and permanent rather than seasonal — there are established English, Scandinavian, German and Arab communities with decades of roots in the area.

Local Insurance Considerations in Marbella
Insuring property in Marbella's high-value market comes with specific considerations that make getting the detail right especially important:
- High-value property and rebuild costs: Marbella has some of the highest rebuild costs in Spain. A Sierra Blanca villa or Golden Mile property with a market value of €2 million may have a rebuild cost of €1.5 million or more. Underinsuring by even 30% means every claim is reduced by 30% under the regla proporcional — on a high-value claim that is a very large sum lost.
- Wildfire risk from Sierra Blanca: the wooded hillsides above Marbella are a wildfire interface zone. Hillside villas in La Zagaleta, El Madroñal, Sierra Blanca and surrounding urbanisations face genuine wildfire exposure — particularly important to declare correctly and to have the correct cover for outbuildings and garden structures.
- Marine cover for Puerto Banús: many Marbella residents also need vessel cover for craft berthed at Puerto Banús. We arrange marine insurance through Generali covering hull and third-party liability — entirely by phone or WhatsApp.
- Luxury contents and valuables: high-value collections, jewellery, fine art and prestige vehicles need specific individual declarations within a home policy. A standard contents sum insured will not cover a single piece of jewellery worth €50,000 unless individually listed.
