Local factors that do push premiums up include mountain roads (TF-21 up Teide, the Anaga roads), heavy tourist traffic on the TF-1 south, electric scooter density in the resort areas, so a policy with glass and own-damage cover is often worthwhile here.

Yes — UK driving licences are valid in Spain for driving purposes. However, if you become a Spanish resident, you must exchange your UK licence for a Spanish one within 6 months of establishing residency (this is a post-Brexit requirement). Until the exchange, your UK licence is valid for driving but cannot be used as an ID document for insurance or administrative purposes. Inspections are required every two years for vehicles older than four years (annually after ten years).
