Yes. Once you become a Spanish resident, you should arrange a Spanish car insurance policy. UK policies typically cover European travel for limited periods only — they are not designed for permanent residents abroad. Terceros Ampliado (extended third-party) covers: damage and injury you cause to third parties (RC Obligatoria), theft and attempted theft of your vehicle, fire damage, glass and windscreen cover, and 24-hour European breakdown assistance. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle caused by an accident where you are at fault — that requires a Todo Riesgo (comprehensive) plan. Most Els Poblets residents choose Terceros Ampliado for older vehicles and Todo Riesgo for newer or higher-value cars.
