Generali Air Transport (Mercancías Cargadores Aéreos) Insurance Conditions
Generali's air-freight cargo policy for goods shipped by air, explained in plain English.
This is a cargo (goods-in-transit) policy for merchandise shipped by air — for air shippers (cargadores aéreos). It covers physical loss of or damage to the goods while they travel by aircraft, up to the sum insured. It is one of Generali's four transport insurance options.

The cover
What is covered ↑ top
Generali insures the total loss and material damage the goods may suffer as a result of fall, overturn, collision, impact or fire — and, in general, any fortuitous accident of the aircraft in which the goods were loaded for carriage.
It also covers partial theft or pilferage of the contents, provided the affected package(s) show external traces of break-in and this is duly proven before the consignee takes charge of the goods.
What is excluded ↑ top
The policy does not, in any case, cover loss or damage caused by:
- Wilful misconduct or gross negligence of the insured, their staff or representatives;
- Delay in transport or delivery, from any cause;
- Bad stowage, insufficient or defective packing, spillage, weight loss, breakage, fermentation, decay, overheating, the effects of temperature, auto-combustion, oxidation, rainwater, and the inherent vice of the goods;
- Sanitary or disinfection measures; damage by insects or woodworm;
- Contraband, prohibited trade, embargo, seizure or confiscation by judicial or administrative order.
War & extraordinary risks ↑ top
Unless a special agreement and additional premium are arranged, the policy does not cover accidents caused by earthquakes, volcanoes or other seismic phenomena; war, rebellion, revolution, riots, looting and sedition; capture, requisition or seizure; foreign invasion, hostilities and reprisals; strikes, lock-outs and boycotts; or any extraordinary act of government, authority or the populace and its consequences.
Sum insured & excess ↑ top
The sum insured for each item is set in your Particular Conditions and is the maximum payable for that item. An excess (franquicia) applies per claim, according to the policy's franchise table and the nature of the goods.
Claims ↑ top
Notify Generali of a claim and prove it as the policy requires — in particular, for theft or pilferage, the external break-in traces must be shown before the consignee takes delivery. The insured must take reasonable steps to limit the loss and provide the documentation needed to assess and settle it.
